2015-2016 Bay Area Christmas Bird Counts

The 116th annual Audubon Christmas bird count (CBC) season runs from

December 14, 2015 through January 5, 2016 (January 16 including CBCForKids dates)

Count participants follow assigned routes within a 15-mile-diameter circle, counting all birds they see or hear all day long. All birds are tallied in order to estimate the total number of birds in the circle on the count day. If observers live inside a CBC circle, they may count the birds at their feeders and submit those data to their compiler (prior arrangement with compilers required). CBCs are conducted on different days between December 14 and January 5 (inclusive) each season. Each count is restricted to one calendar day. Most counts end with a celebratory dinner afterwards. Count details for the most recent completed year are available at: http://birds.audubon.org/christmas-bird-count

There is no longer a $5.00 participation fee for CBCs (previously charged to offset the cost of tabulating and publishing count results by the National Audubon Society and Cornell Lab of Ornithology). Count results are now published online. CBC4Kids events may require pre-registration and small participation fee (see below).
